Here I sit, currently in a strange position i’m not used to. Last week I quit my job, this will be the first time since college I have not been working full time. Although, I know I shouldn’t really be nervous about it, I can’t help it. I am hoping my time off from work will be as short as possible. The good news is that in the coming months I can really get myself set and coding full time. The goal will be a minimum of 40/hrs a week, although I would prefer to closer to 50.
I have been looking actively and speaking with people regarding bootcamps in the Boston area. I still have yet to make up my mind, but I feel this approach will be the best path forward for me. I like having that “outside” pressure that helps push things forward. The couple of camps I am considering are Launch academy and Metis. I am also considering the online program Bloc. I know there are huge differences between all these programs and I am working on evaluating what will work best for my learning style and family.
I am at the point where I have built a few rails apps, and done a ton (relatively speaking) of straight ruby programming. I really need to work on getting some portfolio projects together and could use some help with my brewing app (more on this later). I do like the idea of having a mentor who I can bounce questions off of. Currently a lot of the questions I have I know would be much easier answered via a real person vs. scouring stack overflow and google.
Ultimately, I like to think that what matters in the end is what you know and can produce. If I end up doing the bloc program, i’ll probably enroll here in the next week or so. Excited to be moving forward!
