I have been crazy busy with work and other “life” events. I actually just gave my notice at work and will be starting a new job in a few weeks. It will be interesting moving the family 300 miles south….The whole job thing is a topic for another post. That said, I have been working a lot with rails lately and think I am actually beginning to understand some of the things that I really didn’t before.
I’m a builder, I have always been one that likes to see the fruits of my labor. For me, sitting and running straight ruby scrips is great, but boring! I can learn that way, but find I am more of a do something, get error…troubleshoot…fix? kind of guy. What I have started doing is basically just building apps which is way more fun, granted these aren’t anything crazy but I am learning a ton. Overall, I have been spending a lot of time on the MVC architecture. Most of what I have been wrapping my head around lately is the models, specifically validations and associations.
I found actually drawing out the table relationships definitely helps me to see how the tables relate to one another. This will definitely help when working on my grainbill app for homebrewing, I haven’t really been working on it because I have been stuck trying to figure out how all the tables will relate to on another…I can think of maybe 5 or 6 off the top of my head. I think sooner rather than later I will I get going on that again. I also want to build a new blog site for myself, not sure the best way to move forward with that, just something simple and clean. suggestions?
Wow, so much to do…along with sell our house and move..exciting times!
