So far so good...Change of plans?

Well, it’s been another late night of hacking away. Iv’e still been following along with Chris Pines - Learn to Program book. Currently I have been working about 3hrs per night and just made it to lesson 10. I can tell by reading through the chapter this is where things get real. I think this block and proc stuff might be a little difficult to understand, but i’ll get through it.

So ultimately the goal here is to become a developer, work hard, write lots of good code, have fun and get paid. I have been following Josh Kemp’s blog and using that as sort of a guide. However, my plan may be changing. Ultimately, what I need to do is follow a path to this goal that is going to be best for my learning style and time available. In the end it doesn’t really matter how I reach this goal as long as it’s obtained. So, what am I getting at?

I stumbled upon the Odin Project which from reading all about it on the site seemed like a good plan. Essentially the site guides you through learning web development through an established path. So this is similar to what I am doing now, but with more guidance. I have a tendency to wonder when I find something in particular that I want to learn about so this could help me. This will be a departure from where I have started (Ruby) and start with some basic HTML, CSS and Javascript. This will progress into ruby, databases, git… throw in some HTML5, CSS3, Jquery and were good to go! that simple…well sounds simple, I know it won’t be easy.

One great thing about the site is the study groups…I have yet do one but will be this coming Sunday. We’ll see how it goes, I’m looking forward to it. So, looks like there will be a brief break from ruby while I jump on the HTML, CSS stuff. I’m hoping it goes smoothly, I’ve does some in the past..fingers crossed.
